The wolf's huge jaws are dripping... not with saliva, but with blood. Her mother's body lies nearby. Lifeless. A steady stream of blood is still pouring from her throat, almost a river. Thewolf snarls, and gets closer. Suddenly, a flash of pale gray: and a huge tom is on top of the wolf. Ripping and snarling, the tom attacks the wolf's throat. The wolf whimpers once, twice, and then falls to the ground. It's eyes are glazed over. It's paw twitches, and then it is still. The tom lies in a heap near the wolf. His fur is caked with blood. She races over to him, gasping when she sees the huge wound in his side. "Sleekpaw," meows the tom staring up at her. "Dad...' Sleekpaw chokes back a sob. "I love you, dad.' She glances at the she-cat's lifeless body. "Say hi to mom for me, please." The tom nods, and then huffs out his last breath. Sleekpaw sobs and buries her face in his fur. "Why, StarClan, why?"
